Eco Ranger Power Up!: A Game-Based Plastic Recycling and Management Initiative
Big display deco setup at the main foyer of the venue
The long-awaited concept that we have been planning for months has finally come to fruition. We are thankful for obtaining seed funding from the Environmental Accelerator Programme, which helped us realise our new approach.
It was indeed challenging to balance all the desired requirements into an interactive, immersive, yet educational experience for the participants. The participants took on the role of Eco Rangers to combat plastic pollution.
Venue Selection and Design
The venue was thoughtfully chosen based on our theme, Eco Ranger, where the landscape was decorated with thematic design elements, colours, and gameplay features.
We believe that practical actions, a.k.a. Do-It-Yourself activities, will have a greater impact in building a mind map for our participants. Therefore, our plastic recycling awareness efforts will be more effective and pragmatic.
The Amazing Quests
Our Eco Rangers were required to complete three main quests assigned to them on the cards given. Each quest had its own educational takeaways revolving around plastic knowledge and management. Once they completed the quests, they could proceed to the redemption counter to receive their rewards.
Suprise Encounter
We were honoured that our Deputy Education Minister, Wong Kah Woh, and his team members showed up at our campaign. We gave a tour to demonstrate how our gameplay was conducted during their visit. Their arrival and support have greatly motivated us to move forward confidently.
Mission Accomplished
We successfully impacted 72 individuals and approximately 200 visitors during a two-day campaign held last Christmas Eve, focusing on building a mind map around the idea of identifying resin codes, cleaning plastic before recycling, and segregating it according to type. Additionally, we collected approximately 1,000 pieces of plastic, consisting mainly of single-use plastics, to be recycled and upcycled.
A big round of applause to our facilitators for their dedication and trust in our mission for this campaign. We are glad that the younger generation stands up for the cause to make our town a better place to live. We hope more Eco Rangers like them will join our efforts to keep this momentum going from now on.
